Yes you have guessed it right. This blog-post is dedicated to the bollywood movie titled Om Shanti Om. SRK's latest flick, Farah Khan's second venture as a movie director, Deepika Padukone's debut to the Bollywood World. The hype around the movie was HUGE. In fact, I have never seen any film from Bollywood creating so much anticipation, so much buzz as this movie. The movie released during the Diwali season. The ticket prices touched the sky. And if you are a resident of Bangalore, you better be ready to sacrifice next two weeks supply of the original Six Packs to go and watch SRK's much crazed about 6 Packs. I was not. So, I decided to lay low, and not give much notice to the oh-so-appealing posters that the Movie theatres and Multiplexes were displaying. And today, I thank God for guiding me to that decision. I hope I would be able to show the same level of self-restraint on other matters (actually on matters of heart) as well.
Last weekend we saw the movie. There were four of us who watched it. Trust me, we all are still reeling from that horrible experience. We all are like, Okay, no movies for the next 7days. How can a movie made in today's world be so dumb, so ridiculous, so baseless as OSO?? It is agreed that when you start watching a film, you should not always judge it on the scales of logic, practicality. We did by agreeing to watch a film that tells a tale about reincarnation and revenge. But then, there a word in English dictionary called 'limit'. Farah Khan plays with audiences limit of patience and sense of sanity. As if it was not enough by giving a rebirth to the films hero, Om, she gave a rebirth to the heroine, Shanti as well! Well not quite, she just had the looks, not the memories of Shanti. Then at the end, the ghost of Shanti makes a grand entry as well!! I wonder what stopped her from giving a birth to the villain as well. Yeah, that would have gone well to the mood of the movie isn't it? The rebirths would have settled matters amongst themselves!! Game of revenge and all between reborns. God is great. He will justice, if not in one birth, across births!! Damn, that would have been something original.... Give it a thought Farah, in case you are wondering about making OSO-2 : Return of the Nightmare.
The bottom line though, the film is a hit. For that, I guess a lot of credit will go to the fierce competitor of the movie - Saawariyaan. The word goes that Saawariyaan is even more intolerable than OSO(thank God again for guiding me through the decision of watching neither during the Diwali). An entertainment-hungry pack of Diwali crowd would naturally pack into the halls of OSO. Second, and even more important factor would be those blind blind fans of SRK for whom it would be just enough to have the King appear in the scene. No matter what the film's contents are. God help their souls.Go and watch OSO if you are an Akshay Kumar fan ( his jig was the best part of the movie). As of movie mongers like me, it is rest-n-recoup time. No movies for the next few days. Lets get over this nightmare.
